Public Art: Adding Aesthetic Beauty to Los Angeles

Los Angeles can at times be a bustling metropolitan full of people in route to work or to the next hot spot. But amidst the city lights and traffic jams, Los Angeles has also become a haven for art that spans from the many museums to the curiously and often beautiful works found around the city. Here is a list of the most creative commissioned works found in Los Angeles that sprinkle a bit of fun into Angelenos’ daily routine.

The city has recently seen a new trend of electrical outlets dawning Sunset Boulevard that are creating a wave as passers-by are left to wonder, why an outlet? The meaning is left to interpretation but it is safe to guess these city slickers wouldn’t mind a real outlet to charge up that iPhone’s critical battery.

Los Angeles gets a touch of New York as Curtis Kulig, an NYC artist and photographer, displays a very straight forward message in his popular Love Me project. This former Creative Director for HBO’s How to Make it in America, takes his conceptualized campaigns to decorate Beverly Boulevard.

A larger than life public art piece can be found at the Wilshire Vermont Station. With the intent to bring a little tranquility to an uber-bustling area, environmental artist April Greiman painted the mural possibly for that reason alone and perhaps to take the edge off of the oh-so stressful traffic jam.

Hollywood is given a colorful addition in this artful piece that displays a bit of vintage Hollywood glamour with style icon Audrey Hepburn. One of the most talked about public art pieces since its appearance at a local photo lab, this mural pays homage to the actress while also giving everyone something fabulous to look at.

Daily Dead Speaks with P3R’s Client Christien Tinsley for Tell-All Interview

Special effects makeup artist and character designer, Christien Tinsley recently sat down with Daily Dead, a news powerhouse in all things horror, to speak about what drives this artist to create works that have brought him such acclaim as the Academy Award.

It is safe to assume that most individuals are motivated by something to pursue their dream and as Christien reveals, the start of his dreams began in his childhood bedroom in Seattle, WA, creating Halloween masks and sculptures. Inspired by the legends within special effects makeup and design industry as well as his incendiary desire to create, Christien speaks of how he later found himself in Los Angeles, CA, with little more than a vision of where he dreamed to be.

The interview goes into the artist’s history as leading prosthetic and special effects makeup designer for the hit show American Horror Story that has gained unparalleled popularity for its stark originality and impacting visual effects. Subtle hints are also dropped as to what fans can expect from the second season of American Horror Story and a brand new movie called Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt. Diamond in the Rough: A Masterpiece Surfaces in the Most Unlikely of Places

Flea markets are a place to find those vintage odds and ends you’ve been missing in your home. But never would you expect to come across a 19th century painting by leading French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, as was found in West Virginia. Art curators and the art world at large were stunned at this seven dollar Glad Bag Flea Market purchase.

Adding to the “unbelievable” factor, is that the lucky owner, a Virginia woman, had the initial plan to cut the Renoir out of its original frame, a plan thankfully averted by the owner’s mother. Speculations of how the painting made its way from France to land in West Virgina began to circulate, all of which eventually ended with a Pittsburgh native who had purchased the Renoir from a French art Gallery in 1926.

At any rate, the current owner is more than thankful and looks to sell masterpiece in an auction that will begin at a mere $100K; just a little more expensive than her previous, seven dollar flea market find.

Beauty In Rebirth: Remembering 9/11 in World Trade Center Commemorative Time-Lapse

Eleven years ago, the nation bore witness to the attacks on World Trade Center  as it became apparent that the cirumstances which proceeded would be life altering. Now, in present day, we look back at a moment in U.S. history that will be recognized as a day of rememberence in one of the nation’s most trying times. The events of  9/11 are remembered also by today’s artists as they explore the simple beauty captured in the World Trade Center’s rebirth that is emblematic of just how far this nation has come since.

EarthCam, the leading network of live streaming webcams, documented the One World Trade Center Tower construction spanning from February 2010 until September 2012 in this artfully done time-lapse. In our ever-growing technological age, webcams have allowed us to capture moments we never thought plausible, allowing people to view live streaming videos around the world.

By capturing the reconstruction from multiple angles, both night and day, they have produced a one minute, twenty-second video that drives home the reality of the wake and rise of the World Trade Center and what America has lost and gained.
