Lighting Up Fantasy Football

Football season is here and for many, this ensures one thing; fantasy football! Huddled over a computer, holding their breathe until each pick is a success, for the fans that partcipate, fantasy football is a serious ordeal. To top things off, it can quickly become a stressful situation when hedging your bets and placing your wagers enter the equation. That is until this year’s football season. Bud Light, the official sponsor of the National Football League, has taken over the fantasy football arena with a newer, more spirited rendition by combining beer and the game into a perfectly refreshing union.

Making this season, “The Year of the Fan,” Bud Light has decided to set up its own Bud Light Fantasy Football League just as McDonald’s did in the family favorite Monopoly. How it works is simple: The new Bud Light Fantasy Football edition box is made up of a 12 pack case that comes complete with a “pigskin” end and inside are more than a million cans and bottles “where every bottle is a player.”

The beers come with codes on their bottle cap, which you then enter online to see just how many points your player is scoring.  So if you didn’t have a reason to enjoy this fan-based game before, you definitely have a reason to now!

A Presidential Pint

President Obama’s White House kitchen has been hard at work coming up with new official beer recipes.  Last week the President admitted that he enjoyed the new brew flavors while on tour with his staff.  Now, beer aficionados are demanding to know their small-batch methods!

Individuals filed a petition stating, “In keeping with the brewing traditions of the founding fathers, homebrewers across America call on the Obama Administration to release the recipe for the White House home brew so that it may be enjoyed by all.”

We know at least a few of the beers use honey from First Lady Michelle’s bee garden.  Presidential varietals include White House Honey Ale, White House Honey Blonde and White House Honey Porter.  The President is obviously huge fan of the beers, quoted as saying they are simply, “superb.”

Guinness: The “Unofficial” Drink of St. Patrick’s Day

When we think of St. Patrick’s Day, Irish beer is what comes to mind! Guinness is the go-to drink of choice for millions around the world on this fun Irish holiday.  Guinness has become one of the most successful beer brands worldwide since it’s opening in the 1700′s. It is brewed in almost 50 countries and  1,800,000,000 US pints are sold annually!

Arthur Guinness started brewing in 1759 at the St. James’s Gate Brewery. On December 31, 1759, he signed (up to) a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum for the unused brewery.

The Guinness Factory located in Dublin, Ireland has a skybar with 360-degree views of the city.  A visit to this place is a must-do for anybody looking for the “Perfect Pint.”

Coupa Café is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by offering a FREE Guinness draft beer from 4pm-7pm with a purchase of any menu item.

Venti.. Vino? Starbucks makes a play for ‘Bar’ Bucks

Starbucks has announced that they will be adding beer and wine to their menus at select stores throughout Southern California, Chicago and Atlanta. The Seattle-based company will continue to test out this “one stop for all beverages” idea, as alcohol is already being served in a few stores near Seattle and Portland.

This idea came about since Starbucks has a hard time getting customers to come in during the evenings.  After 4pm, patrons can enjoy a new happy hour spot as well as snacking on additional food items.  ”Premium items” such as hot flatbreads, savory snacks and small plates will be on the menu.

Getting your fix, in a different way

Starbucks is already notorious for jacking up their prices, so how much will they charge for wine and beer? A glass of wine will run you anywhere between $7-$9 and beer will only be $5.  That is cheaper than some restaurants! Their notion is that pouring a glass of wine is less labor intensive that making a latte.  We’ll have to wait and see if this new idea will take flight!

Would you try a beer or glass of wine at Starbucks?
