Remembering Ottavio Missoni

Ottavio Missoni

Ottavio Missoni 1990

“I’ve never done what was fashionable,” he told WWD in February 2011. “I didn’t want to work with preset schemes, and I paint my own way. I ended up in fashion by chance, I would never have imagined it.”

Los Angeles Fashion PR firm, P3R Publicity was sad to hear the news that Missoni co-founder, Ottavio Missoni, 92, died this morning at his home in Italy. To honor the memory of the designer who revolutionized textile patterns and created a fashion empire founded on a shoestring in 1950s, P3R takes a look at some of our favorite Missoni looks.

A Socially Responsible Way to Shop

We’re showing you a completely different way to shop in tinsel town.  This way you can indulge in your favorite guilty pleasure (hint: shopping) without the guilt. We’ve all been there, you score a luxury handbag, then you start to feel bad about spending that much.

Being in Los Angeles, there are red carpet charity events sprinkled throughout the year. At these events, many luxury items are up for auction; such as Tiffany & Co jewelry, Chanel handbags, Gucci accessories, and designer brands galore.

Think you can’t attend because your job has nothing to do with entertainment? Think again! Some of these events are $100 or less for general admission tickets.

In addition to simply shopping, it’s a Hollywood experience!  Usually at these events there is a red carpet to walk.  Such a great idea to get a bunch of girlfriends together for a fun night of shopping, socializing, and above all, helping someone less fortunate.

There’s an upcoming event here in Beverly Hills called the Butterfly Gala on January 17, where 100% of the proceeds go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  Click to buy tickets.

Whats your favorite charity?

“The Bash” of All Bashes Help Teens in Need

While most teens are worrying about keeping up with the latest trends and what they’ll be wearing to prom, Bosilika An and Nathalia Nora, are two remarkable young women who are working towards helping other teens in need. With just a visit to Santa’s Workshop at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, Bosilika and Nathalia came up with the concept of “The Bash”, a black-tie event fundraiser with the goal of raising awareness and money for three children’s hospitals in California.

When visiting the hospital, the girls noted that there was ample funding for young children, but teens were a large demographic that was being left out. They wanted to create an organization with the premise, “teens helping teens, one event at a time”. Their goal is to make the lives of teen patients more enjoyable by providing financial, medical, social and emotional support through technological relief outlets like, gaming devices.

This year’s event will be hosted by Shenae Grimes of the hit show 90210 with an exclusive fashion show by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti. With Gavin of LCD Sound System, surprise performances and celebrities walking the red carpet, this year’s event will surely be bigger than the last!

“The BASH” begins at 8PM on Saturday, May 14th at ELXR Lounge in Hollywood. Tickets can be bought at http://www.mintcastle.com/page/thebash
