Please Don’t Stop The Music: Nadia’s Playlist

As both weekends of Coachella wrapped up last weekend, the music festivities continue this weekend with Stagecoach taking over the polo fields in Indio. Today at P3R we’re revisiting old favorites and loving them on this beautiful Friday morning!

Who: Nadia, Senior Account Executive: Fashion Department

When Music and Fashion Collide:

The Great Show of Nina Simone, Live in Paris was recorded in 1968 and released seven years later in 1975. I had always been obsessed with Nina but never realized how incredible she was until I was renting an apartment in East London and the subletor left this record on the coffee table … I was hooked. It’s fun to imagine a bit of Jane Birkin roaming the streets of Paris in 1975 in her effortless basics. She is my summer style inspiration in this image with a pair of wide leg A.P.C. Jeans, perfect white tee, Ann Demeulemeester lace-up booties, woven basket bag and loose top bun! All that she is missing is Nina’s Live in Paris on her iPod.

Tupac Comes Back To Life At Coachella

In Coachella this past weekend, one of the most memorable (or perhaps only memory for some concert-goers) was the realistic hologram of Tupac Shakur.  The hologram effect made it appear that Shakur was performing his top hits “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” alongside Snoop Dogg.

Tupacs’s mother, Afeni Shakur, was reportedly “thrilled” with the hologram of her son, as she was consulted for approval before the performance.  This may just be the beginning of  his hologram since there have been rumors that both Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg have ideas to incorporate it into their tour.

Digital Domain Media Group created “Tupac” from piecing together previous performances and movements recorded before the rapper’s death in 1996.  It was not footage; they completely created this illusion using computer graphics.

Dr. Dre contacted AV Concepts, who used a version of old-school technology called the “Pepper’s Ghost.” The image projected onto a reflective piece of Mylar stretched on a clear frame.  The company won’t divulge the exact price, but says that the project was in the $100,000 to $400,000 range.

Do you think this hologram idea will continue into “performances” of other deceased artists? Is Bob Marley next?

Catching Up With Jes Macallan

For those who are recuperating from the past 3 days of euphoria at Coachella or those anxiously awaiting their turn at weekend 2, we caught up with actress Jes Macallan to talk all things music and festival related. The leading lady of ABC’s newest series “Mistresses” relived some of her favorite memories of The Vans Warped Tour and share some advice with those festival goers.

Get Jes’  boho festival vibe with key simple pieces. Her breezy Linden tank is perfectly paired with a black lace Coobie to stay cool in the desert heat. Jes’ accessories pull the entire look together, her layered necklace by Russian Dolls are on trend for spring, plus her floppy D&Y hat is ideal for keeping and looking cool at all the music festivals.

1. Which artist(s) attending Coachella 2012 would you like to see live?

There are so many good performers going this year. Florence and the Machine would be amazing, I love “Shake It Out,” M83 would be awesome, LL Cool J introduced me to them and they are great, also the Childish Gambino would be a fun set to see.

2. What is the one thing you MUST pack for a music festival?

Well my 16-year-old self going to The Warped Tour would say my favorite band’s trucker hat.

3. Where in LA is your favorite Friday night spot?

On a Friday night you can find me at one of my favorite dive bars in West Hollywood.

4. Heels or flats?

I find myself opting for heels more often than not.

5. The best beauty advice I ever received… less is more.

For those who just went to Coachella or are planning to go this weekend, what is a must-have on your packing list?

Surviving Coachella with 4 Essential Apps

With thousands of music lovers flocking to the desert for Coachella, the weekend festival is finally upon us.  We’ve rounded up a few key apps for your survival during your stay in Indio.

Official Coachella 2012 is the app that has all of your need-to-know basics: artist info, set times, a “favorites” list to help you personalize your Coachella experience by choosing your sets, and a detailed map.

If you’ve ever been to any sort of concert before, you know that eventually someone is bound to get separated from the group.  Glympse is a free location share app, because everyone needs help navigating through the seemingly endless crowds from time to time!

Even though it’s not going to be the stereotypical scorching hot desert you imagine, staying hydrated is still the key to having endurance all weekend long.  You don’t want to miss out on your highly anticipated shows because you’re drained and dehydrated, do you?   Instead of grabbing that Red Bull, reach for some H20!  Water Your Body app tracks water consumption and then plots it so that over time, so you can correlate your hydration level with how you feel. The app is also equipped with alarms to remind you when it’s time to re-up, since you’ll probably forget during all the jam sessions.

Whether you’re blanking at what the song title is, or just hear a side stage song that intrigues you, Shazam is your savior.  The app captures a song, live or recorded, to find the name of the track and artist.

Which apps do you recommend?

Please Don’t Stop The Music: Ola’s Playlist

It’s hard to tell where the line between music and fashion is drawn in terms of Coachella. All of this talk of music festivals has us revisiting some of our favorite hits and the great styles they inspired.

Who: Ola, CEO/Owner of P3R Publicity

When Music and Fashion Collide:

I love everything about the 80′s. Films, music, fashion all had a very “happy” tone to it. When I am done with work and want to unwind, I love listening to 80′s music in my car on my drive home: BeeGees, Michael Jackson, U2, Queen, Bon Jovi, George Michael…

I love fashion inspired by the 80′s such as Pucci‘s beautiful bright patterns, Jessica Grant bags, bright colored shoes…Most of my daytime wardrobe is black or grey, complemented with bright accessories.

What’s your favorite kind of music to get you through your drive home?

Please Don’t Stop The Music: Austin’s Playlist

Coachella is 3 days away, the countdown to Stagecoach has begun and the line ups for Bonnaroo and Sasquatch have just been revealed. Music is in the air!

Who: Austin, Showroom Manager

When Music and Fashion Collide:

House music has always been a part of my music rotation, but recently it has grown to be one of my favorite musical genres. From its European origins, house combines great sound and great style. The rapid BPM and the fluctuation of pitches make house music one of a kind. Swedish House Mafia is by far one of my favorite house music groups, their technique is unique and they make music fun and playful.

One of my favorite songs by Swedish House Mafia is “One.” This is a great song to play for any occasion. It always puts me in a good mood.

I’ve always associated fashion with house music. From electric colors and great summer basics, house music styles must be equal parts on-trend and comfortable. For me this translates to either a bold color tank top or a Polo shirt, golfer shorts and some suede loafers.

Are you a fan of house music? What kind of music gets you going?
