Slow Down to Keep Going: Tips on How to Prevent Burn Out

Working hard and playing even harder eventually starts taking a toll; and with Labor Day weekend ahead, playing hard will most likely be high on the to-do list. With all of the social events, holiday appearances and obligations to attend, it is not uncommon for the modern girl or guy to begin early for a day at the office and end the day late after a night out on the town. So how can you recoup from the hustle and bustle? Here are some rejuvenating tips to give you that much needed boost in the middle of life’s balancing act.

Make your home your haven. Creating a relaxing space by reducing clutter and choosing décor that fits your personal style may just lead to extra time spent lounging inside instead of hitting the local lounge.

But for those that have no other choice than to be on the go, setting time aside to pamper yourself with a facial treatment is a must. This spa favorite restores the natural radiance of skin that may have faded over time and feels great while doing it!

Finally, reserve some time to take a hike. We all know that being active is vital for a healthy body and mind but in a jam packed schedule, being active equates to running errands! To get your mind off of the day-to-day while also giving your body a blood pumping workout, go for a hike the LA way, by hitting some trails in Hollywood Hills.

How will you rejuvenate this Labor Day weekend?

Be Good To Yourself: Dr. Haworth’s Healthy Living Tips

Are you such a busy person that it’s hard to keep up with a certain diet/exercise routine? Take some healthy living tips from a surgeon!

Who: Dr. Randal Haworth, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon

For the professional with a busy lifestyle:

1.  For a quick snack, cottage cheese with pineapple is my go-to choice.  It’s a healthy balance for an in-between meal.

2. As I get older, my metabolism is changing, which means I need to change-up my routine and incorporate more aerobics with weight training.  I swear by my Technogym Elliptical.  It’s a professional grade machine that has a built-in TV so I can watch my favorite movies while working out.  It’s an incentive because I’ll watch the first half one day, then want to work out again the next day to finish it!  It’s all about tricking yourself into being active even when you don’t feel like it.

3. It’s very hard to keep on a strict diet when dining out, but at home I like to stick with soups and salads.  Soups are a great way to feel satisfied with just a few hundred calories. As long as I feel full, I’m a happy camper!

4. Another way I stay in shape is that I go on hikes with my dog every other day.  It’s a fun way to relax, while bonding with man’s best friend.

What are some ways you trick yourself into being active?

Live Long and Prosper With These Tips:

I struggle when it comes to finding the time to get in shape or staying on a healthy track.  But I have found that if I try to incorporate one or more of the below healthy tips, I’m definitely on the right path to feeling better and looking great.

1. I just got back to my spinning addiction due to the opening of CycleHouse LA, a luxury spinning studio where for every class taken, they donate 2 meals to someone in need through non-profit Feeding America, so I feel incredibly guilty for more than one reason if I don’t show up. Nichelle Hines and Aaron Hines are my favorite teachers. Spinning is a great de-stressor, you can burn anywhere from 500-1000 calories, and all levels of fitness can be up for the challenge.

2. If I’m feeling low in energy or haven’t eaten enough veggies for the day, I get a Body Fuel from the BodyFactory. It’s a green smoothie with ingredients that include: Alfalfa, Broccoli, Carrot, Echinacea, Garlic, Kelp, Spinach, and more.  It may sound overwhelming for the “I hate veggies” contingent, but it is delicious for even the pickiest of eaters.

3. Having salad fatigue? Go for Arugula.  It is such a tasty peppery yummy leafy vegetable that goes with just about anything.  It has many vital phytochemicals, anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals that benefits your health immensely. My favorite easy salad recipe is arugula with shaved almonds, lemon, and parmesan, tossed with extra virgin olive oil.

4. For the ultimate relaxation and detoxing, I love to go to Wilshire Spa, an affordable Korean spa for women. I recommend a combination body scrub, massage, sauna, and steam as there are numerous health benefits and rejuvenating effects to these treatments.  It is open 24hrs, so I can always make time to go. Afterwards my skin is glowing, I feel lighter, and I am definitely in a state of bliss.

Getting Grammy Ready

Since the Grammy’s are this Sunday, the stars should be well into their personal routines in order to look their best for the red carpet.  But maybe YOU have an event to go to and don’t have the same resources, time or money as the celebs. P3R shares some quick tips for looking your best!

There are many different methods to go about being prepared for an event and taking vitamins is a crucial ingredient for making your skin glow.  Check out VitaminShoppe for supplements that will make nails harder, hair silkier, and skin radiant.

Others opt for doing a cleanse.  It’s common to think that ‘cleansing’ is just a fancy way to crash diet.  In reality, the key purpose is to cleanse your body of toxins and reinforce a more healthy ‘you.’  Losing weight from a cleanse is a secondary effect from rebooting your system.  After the cleanse is over, eating healthy foods is necessary to keep the ball rolling.  If you revert back to junk food, it completely negates the cleanse.

Drink lots of water! Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima added drinking a gallon of water into her diet as she prepared for the fashion show last year.  Since you probably won’t be sporting lingerie to your next event, you don’t have to go that extreme, but hydration is necessary for healthy, glowing skin.

Remember: Don’t give in to outside pressures and critiques!  It happens to everyone, including those going to the Grammys.  Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld was recently quoted, “Adele is a little too fat.”  If you feel beautiful and confident on the inside, it will translate to looking great!

This year she is heading to the Grammys with 6 nominations including Album of the Year for 21 and “Rolling in the Deep” is nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.  We doubt she cares what other people think of her!

Reshaping Lips

Lips are the hardest facial feature to make any changes on.

But not to worry, P3R’s Client Dr. Randal Haworth has developed a one of a kind designer lips surgery with a new medical lip shaping procedure, published recently in medical journals.

His A-list clientele will fly thousands of miles to get their lips done under the hands of Dr. Haworth. “As faces age, so do our lips. Lips will droop and sag just as faces and breasts do. Volume loss is only part of the explanation for this phenomenon; the main culprit is a degeneration of the structure of the skin and it’s supporting tissue,” remarks, Haworth.

Procedures can vary in time from 30 minutes to 1 hour with minimal recovery time.

Which celebrities do you think have had their lips overdone?

The Truth About Replacing Breast Implants

P3R’s client and world-renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Randal Haworth is giving you the scoop. Santa Monica Daily Press covers Haworth’s thoughts on the topic in the article, “Check The Expiration Date on Implants.”

“As a plastic surgeon specializing in breast augmentation, I am frequently asked when breast implants should be ‘changed out’ or replaced for safety’s sake. Accompanying such queries are oft-paraphrased references from articles stating that implants should be changed every 10 years. Not only is this erroneous in my opinion but also bad medicine, since such articles carelessly promote unnecessary operations. We all know that unnecessary surgery can lead to avoidable complications, but it is little known that silicone breast implants are the most studied medical device in the whole history of medicine!

Then why is there a continuing controversy fueled by a minor, but vocal minority? To state that a political and not a scientific issue fuel this polemic is an understatement.

MRI recommendation after silicone gel breast augmentation:

1) The FDA has recommended an MRl of the breasts at three years post-op and every two years after. You are currently at one of these postoperative time frames.

2) Most silicone gel implant ruptures are silent. In other words, there are no symptoms.

3) MRI is not 100 percent accurate. Some intact implants will appear ruptured, and some ruptured implants will appear intact. This is not a fault of the radiologist or the MRl — this is the limitation of the technology.

4) Over many years of research, there is no indication that a ruptured implant will cause any disease.

5) If an MRI indicates a ruptured implant but at surgery it is found to be intact, for Allergan implants, the manufacturer’s full warranty still applies. For Mentor implants, the manufacturer will provide the implant replacement but no financial assistance.

6) You must understand that because of the limits of MRl technology, you may have surgery for an implant that is found to be intact, but you will still have undergone the possible risks and complications of surgery.

7) In most countries outside of the United States, the equivalent of the FDA does not recommend routine follow-up MRl.”

Would you ever get your breasts augmented? And if so, would you get multiple MRI scans like the FDA recommends or follow the advice of a professional in the field?

Dr. Haworth is a recognized expert in the field of plastic surgery, specializing in facial surgery and breast augmentation. He is part of The Haworth Institute in Beverly Hills.
