Tinsley’s Emmy Nomination Featured In The Examiner

Breaking headlines everywhere this weekend were the 2012 Emmy nominations. Atop the list was FX‘s submission to the miniseries or movie category of the hit TV show American Horror Story.  Lori Melton of the Examiner congratulated the entire AHS cast and crew, spotlighting prosthetic designer Christien Tinsley and his team’s work.

This is Tinsley’s third Emmy nomination for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie, or Special. Along with brother, Makeup Effects Artist Michael Mekash, and sister-in-law, Department Head Makeup Artist Eryn Krueger Mekash, as well as fellow Prosthetics Designer Jason Hamer and Makeup Effects Artists Hiroshi Yada, Christopher Nelson and Kim Ayers, Tinsley transformed the Emmy nominated actors and actresses, such as Denis O’Hare who plays Burn Man, into their true characters.

A strong believer in Tinsley’s talent, Melton comments “There’s no question that the very talented Tinsley and company deserve their Emmy recognition this year for bringing some of the most original, vivid and frightening characters to life on such a groundbreaking television series like American Horror Story.” To read more about Tinsley’s Emmy nomination click HERE!

Magic Behind Monsters of AHS: Christien Tinsley Interview in Examiner

Just like in the movies how they say “Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13,” if you’re scared of blood and gore, this makeup and special FX is so realistic, it’ll leave you huddled on your couch. Academy Award winning makeup and special FX artist Christien Tinsley has left the audience and media speechless once again with his hair-raising, spine-tingling work on American Horror Story, Season 1.

Lori Melton of the Examiner discussed with Christien just how he created these astonishly horrific looks. Christien recounted “making Halloween masks and creating sculptures” as a kid and “watching films featuring the work of Dick Smith, Stan Winston, Rob Bottin, Steve Johnson and Rick Baker.” These great artists inspired him to become the renowned artist he is today, working with Ryan Murphy on shows such as Nip/Tuck,  Glee, and now AHS. Christien and his amazing crew work very well with Ryan because he “knows what he wants and for a makeup artist that can be a huge blessing.” Infantata was Christien’s favorite creature to design and with this as a teaser, we can’t even imagine what he’ll create in Season 2.
