New York City

Past, Present and Future for Haute Couture that Moves with Grace

New York City on-air style expert and editorial stylist, Dawn Del Russo, has found the same inspiration from Neodandi that designer NiiLartey envisioned when styling. Research has shown that exercise produces endorphins and endorphins make people happy. But what if we showed you that Los Angeles PR Firm, P3R Publicity‘s client Neodandi’s exquisite one-of-a-kind handmade garments not only do the same, but also transform lives. What if we told you that the physical effect that goes with the clothing designed by artisan NiiLartey has given one client the strength to leave her unfulfilling marriage and another to bridge the confidence in approaching a mega studio, later signing a book and movie deal. There is no fiction in the stories that NiiLartey preaches about the dozens of clients that age backwards. For more information about P3R’s Neodandi, email: jessica@myp3r.com.

Women Rule the Web at BlogHer Conference

“It would take a pretty fantastic group of people to convince me to spend a Saturday afternoon during the dog days of summer in a hotel conference room.”  We think Katie Couric said it best when describing the BlogHer Conference being held in Manhattan this weekend.

What exactly is it, you might ask?  It’s where thousands of bloggers come together to connect, learn and inspire.  Women are having an increasing amount of influence when it comes to the conversation flowing online.

When President Barack Obama speaks at your blogger conference too (virtually), you know you’ve got some clout.  He thanked the 5,000 assembled bloggers for their content.  “Like every father, I think about the role models that are out there for my daughters, and I worry about what they will run into online,” he said. “The fact that Sasha and Malia can go to places like BlogHer is reassuring as a parent.”

‘Once’ Upon A Tony Award

Last night, held at the Beacon Theater in New York City, were the 66th annual 2012 American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards! On this night celebrating Broadway theater, something was different. Unlike the usual big-star production winners, this year’s winners were those with less-known actors!

Once,” a bittersweet romance of two Dublin musicians who fall in love, was the unanimous winner taking home 8 Tony Awards! Written by Irish playwright Enda Walsh and directed by John Tiffany, this musical won, most notably, “Best Musical” and “Best Actor” for Steve Kazee‘s performance. Who would’ve known it was considered “low budget” for a Broadway musical? Winning 8 Tony Awards was a prequel to the classic Peter Pan story, “Peter and the Starcatcher.” Although winning many awards, the winner of “Best Play” was awarded to Bruce Norris‘s satire of race relations “Clybourne Park.” 11 Musicals took home at least 1 Tony Award, out of a possible 37 shows. Not at all bad for spreading the awards across almost a third of the contestants!

Target Aims To Capitalize on Boutique Shoppers

Target isn’t just the place where we find ourselves leaving with tons of impulse purchases in our arms anymore.  It will actually be the destination to get some of our favorite boutique items from across the country.  ”The Shops at Target” is a unique design partnership between Target and multiple beloved upscale boutiques.

The first round of boutiques included in this “Shops at Target” are The Webster from Miami, Cos Bar from Aspen, Privet House from Connecticut, The Candy Store from San Francisco, and Polka Dog Bakery from Boston.

Recently Target announced that Kirna Zabête will be included for the second round of boutiques. New York’s Odin and San Francisco’s The Curiosity Shoppe have also signed on.

Cheers to MCA with a Brass Monkey

Today the music industry and fans worldwide mourn the loss of Beastie Boys cofounder Adam “MCA” Yauch. Known for his witty lyrics and infectious stage presence, MCA will be greatly missed.

The Beastie Boys, who blended punk and rap, burst on the music scene in 1986 with the album “Licensed to Ill,” which included hits such as “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party”), an anthem to teen angst; “Brass Monkey” and “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.”

In remembrance of MCA, get your weekend started with their first single “Fight for Your Right.”

What is your favorite Beastie Boy’s song?

One Day Without Shoes

Are you wondering why people are walking around town barefoot today? To raise awareness about the importance of shoes in our lives, TOMS started the campaign ‘One Day Without Shoes.’  The socially conscious company lives by the statement, “With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for one.”

Their mind-set behind this movement is that curiosity turns into conversation, which turns into action, then change.

Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk.  Shoes can help protect against injury, and in combination with basic hygiene and sanitation, help prevent disease and soil-transmitted infections.  Check out the video below to see the ‘One Day Without Shoes’ movement in action!

The new vending machine outside of their flagship Beverly Hills store charges $4 for a boxed cupcake. Inside the store, cupcakes run about $3.25 without a box.

Founder and owner, Candance Nelson said her company plans to install 3 more in New York City in the next few months.

Nelson shared where the inspiration behind these vending machines came from.  “I was pregnant with my second child and I thought, I’m the owner of a cupcake bakery and even I can’t get a cupcake in the middle of the night.”

Will you try a cupcake from this specialty vending machine?
