It’s Up To You New York: Finale

As New York Fashion Week wraps up today, we must touch on some of the highlights of the final shows. The final shows were full of color; lots of bright, bold colors!

(L-R) L'Wren Scott, Elie Tahari, Nanette Lapore

L’Wren Scott‘s collection of rich velvet ladylike pieces exuded luxury and femininity. Her bold color pairings and pops of vibrant red, gave the collection a true presence.

Elie Tahari showcased his latest collection with the help of his friends, family and staff. Real women gave purpose to his multi-tonal monochromatic looks. The jewel tone colors were vivid and the variations of tones gave each look depth.

Nanette Lepore claimed that her “customers were missing the beading,” so for her Fall 2012 collection she gave them what they wanted. Besides intricate patterned beading, this collection was full of fun, flirty frocks and slim cut trousers in bright colors giving the collection an overall youthful flair.

It’s Up To You New York: Celebs Turned Designers

Celebrities have great style. Every magazine or blog reading, television watching person is influenced by the fashion of the stars. So why not combine fashion and celebrities? Some fashion-forward stars have taken the leap and even started their own collections. Thus far at New York Fashion Week three designing celebs have shown their Fall 2012 collections. Read below to see more about their lines.

(L-R) L.A.M.B., Whitney Eve, Victoria Beckham

The front-woman of No Doubt, Gwen Stefani, has grown her line L.A.M.B. tremendously. Besides clothing her brand encompasses perfume, accessories and a children’s line for Target. Her NYFW Fall collection immortalizes the ’60s rock-and-roll girl, punk and yet pretty.

Reality TV sweetheart Whitney Port of MTV’s hits “The Hills” and “The City” showed at Lincoln Center this year bringing her LA style to the Big Apple. Her line Whitney Eve was a combination mixed prints, playful proportions, bursts of bold hues, and a touch of sequins.

Once a member of the Spice Girls and formerly known as Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham has long departed from her pop star days. Her latest collection has stream-lined, long and lean silhouettes with a sporty touch. Her inspiration? Her son’s baseball uniform.

It’s Up To You New York: Part III

Femininity and glamour. Every woman aspires to embody those two simple words. Today’s wrap-up from New York Fashion Week features designers who design with and epitomize those two elements.

(L-R) Jenny Packham, Zac Posen, DVF, Thakoon, Donna Karan

Jenny Packham‘s ’40s-inspired collection of sequined, curve-conscious evening wear epitomizes old Hollywood glamour. Modern touches of cut-outs and open backs make Packham’s line perfect for red carpet picturesque moments.

No one will be surprised if Zac Posen‘s fall collection turns up on the red carpet at the Oscars. Posen’s grand gowns were inspired by the Far East with ornate details and decadent silks elevating glamour.

Diane von Furstenburg and Yvan Mispelaere’s collection was named “rendezvous” which amounted to sexy, effortless French-inspired dressing.  DVF’s bright hues and easy silhouettes are sure to be favorites of every chic fashionista.

Thakoon‘s overtly feminine collection exuded glamour in shades of red, raspberry and fuchsia. His creations complement a woman’s figure and highlight all the right curves.

For those looking beyond the traditional thoughts of gowns and sparkle, Donna Karan‘s tailored menswear inspired suits and dresses exude femininity and a chic sense of glamour for the modern woman.

It’s Up To You New York: Weekend Round-Up

Now that we’ve made it through the first weekend of New York Fashion Week it’s time to highlight some of the shows with the most buzz surrounding them.

(L-R) Prabal Gurung, Helmet Lang, Alexander Wang, Nicole Miller, Derek Lam

Prabal Gurung‘s show was a journey from dark to blue to light white, ivory and gold. His carefully sculpted aesthetic had a femininely futuristic theme thanks to digital abstract prints and a series of pieces with strong geometric shapes and clean lines.

Helmut Lang’s Fall collection brought forth some of the line’s signature elements of modern, architectural style with a downtown edge. The asymmetrical cuts and funnel neck jackets and sweaters in muted tones are sure to become staples for fashionistas come Fall.

With an all-star line up of top supermodels, Alexander Wang kept his color palette simple showing black, white and ox blood red. But for Wang this season it was all in the details, from fringe to laser cut designs to his manipulation of fabrics that transformed their texture.

Nicole Miller‘s seventies inspired Fall collection covered all trends from the decade. There was lots of fringe, flares, florals, velvet, and leather all accessorized with floppy hats, the perfect uniform for the quintessential rock chick.

Derek Lam brought ladylike dressing and sporty prints together for his Fall collection. Lam’s stand out pieces combined opposites; bomber jackets in pretty florals, chunky ivory knits over silk gowns, and sequin tailored suits in geometric prints.

It’s Up To You New York: Part II

Day two of fashion week was all about making a statement. Statement colors, fabrics, separates and jewelry.

(L-R) Kate Spade, Jason Wu, Peter Som, Rebecca Minkoff, Pamela Love

Kate Spade‘s presentation was full of fun, bright colors and prints with a boyish edge. Her accessories didn’t seem to let anyone down either; big envelope clutches, sleek satchels, leather gloves and polka dots, lots and lots of polka dots!

Fresh off the release of his collaboration line with Target, Jason Wu‘s collection featured tailored military jackets, pops of bold, rich reds and golden brocade.

Peter Som‘s multi-colored furs, peplum tops and sleek tailoring exuded femininity and luxury. Every it-girl trying to make a statement will be seen wearing Som’s fall pieces.

When you think of Rebecca Minkoff you think of amazing handbags and this year’s fashion show did not disappoint. Layering, mixing prints and sequins were trademarks of the fall ready-to-wear line in addition to the new crop of must-have handbags.

Pamela Love once again proved that she is the ultimate jewelry designer known for her trademark statement pieces designed  for the downtown girl. Her cool vibe resonates in her deco, architectural, rock-and-roll cuffs and necklaces.
