How do I know if a Hair Trend is right for me? Tips from Celebrity Stylist and Wella Trend Aficionado, Claudio Lazo

blonde jpeg    We have all been subject to following one trend or another at some point in our lives. We look to them to stay in tune with those around us.   They are about lifestyles and they are exciting, but at the same time confusing and maybe even overwhelming.  Choosing which ones to follow can be challenging.   When you are following a trend, you are following a lifestyle. From the silver screen, fashion magazines to the streets, we are constantly seeing new and interesting things.   But, how do you know if a ‘trend’ is right for you?   We all ponder the thought, “I love that look and how it looks on her.  I wonder if it could work for me?”  Los Angeles base pr firm, P3R’s celebrity stylist client Claudio Lazo, owner of C The Salon in Studio City, CA. and a Wella/Sebastian “Trend Aficionado”, says the best way to approach a new trend is to “find your fit, work with it, and then make it fit your desired lifestyle”.

Can I wear “Trendy” styles? – We cannot try on Angelina Jolie’s dress and become “Angelina Jolie”.  We have to put a different spin on it to make fit with our lifestyle.  You can push a little but you cannot push too much because you will not be comfortable.  The first step is to find where you fit.  Are you Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Prada or are you “California Casual”, “BoHo Chic” or a “mash-up” of several styles?  Angelina Jolie, started with a gothic kind of look, but she mixed it with the classic look of Chanel and other high-end designers and that mix became a ‘look’ that worked for her.

blond shortTrends with Hair Styles – Asian fusion is in. East meet west, tone on tone. But this just might not be the look for you.  However, “you don’t have to be full on” says Lazo. “You can take a piece of a look you like and create a style perfect for you.   When looking at hair trends, you need to consider the color palette, the structure of your face, the appropriate textures, and a flattering length. The best thing to do is consult with your stylist. Trust the pros.  They will be able to tell you if a style will compliment you or not.  A color may make your eye color pop or it can wash out your skin tone.  A certain shape can accentuate your cheekbones or give too much roundness to your face.   With your stylists’ expertise, you will be able to find the right balance incorporating a trendy style into your look.

burgundy longTrends with Color – Currently Bright Pinks, greens, fucias and pastels in.  If you cannot go full on like a teenager, you can place the colors underneath where you can tuck them away during the work day if need be and expose them when you are on your own time.   If you don’t feel like committing to a permanent color, you can always have a hairdresser color some wefts that you can clip in when you want to have that pop of color.

red pixieWhen do you start moving forward from a trend?  You don’t really shift out of a trend necessarily, they sort of just evolve into something else.  For instance with Bangs.  If bangs are the trend and you have them, you will evolve to a ‘whispy’ or a grown out ‘diagonal’ bang which will eventually blend back in with your hairs length.  A “Pixie Cut” too would simply and gradually move into a longer version of that style.

long blonde punkHow long do Trends last?  The length of a trend is usually 6 months to a year before they start to evolve.  From there, you can create a new style from the remnants of the old trend or go with something all together different that may have inspired you from your experience with the previous style.

“Actors, actresses, and models are professionals who are like ‘chameleons’ when playing a role. For them, changing their look entirely for a character isn’t veering too far off course.   For the rest of us however, skewing too far off with the spirit of following a trend can begin to feel unnatural. You can push a little but you can’t push to far beyond a point where you become uncomfortable and not feel like yourself.”, says Claudio.

WEDDINGS! It’s all about the dress and jewelry!

“June” and “Bride” go hand in hand.  As June approaches wedding bells will be heard ringing in the air from the smallest of small towns to major-est of major Metropolitans!  Whether you’ve dreamed about it from childhood or not, it is common knowledge that the brides gown is the center piece of a wedding….oh and of course the life long bond of honor, commitment and the love shared between the bride and groom.

Bridal dresses have seen their fair share of change from generation to generation.  Everything from delicate and demure Empire waists of the Napoleonic era; heavily starched, stiff and oh so wide crinolines and hoops of the 1860’s; voluminous Victorian bustles, bows and ruffles of the 1870’s/80’s; the puffy shoulder pads and miles of lace of the Belle Epoque ‘Gay Nineties’ era to the daring (‘Oh my, she’s baring her knees’) drop waists of the Flapper Set of the 1920’s.  From traditional to fantasy, these past eras offer today’s brides-to-be endless ideas and options for her trousseau.

However, today’s current trends offer a peek into what could be a ‘new’ form of tradition.  Millennium brides-to-be, like Jennifer Aniston, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Olivia Wilde, or Marisa Tomei are sure to make a statement as they take their turn walking down the catwalk, ooops, I mean ‘down the aisle’.  Call these styles bold or risqué, yet albeit stylish, these trending eye catching ensembles are changing the way we look at bridal gowns by incorporating pant-suits, peek-a-boo lace bodices, deep-V cut backs and chic black.  Definitely a new sense of romance for the bride of tomorrow. dress jpg 3Whatever your ultimate decision may be, you can rest assure on one thing, your jewelry will be the piece de resistance.  Los Angeles PR Firm, P3R’s fine jewelry client, Trumpet & Horn, is sure to bridge this gap because it is purely a line where vintage meets modern.  Rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and brooches in Old Mine Cut Diamonds, Sapphires, Emeralds and other precious stones are available in a variety of classic shapes from Marquise, Princess, Asscher, Pear, Oval and Cushion.  Every piece in the Trumpet & Horn collection has a unique, never-ending story and will surely be a coveted heirloom by the little gifts that the stork is sure to bring!

Remembering Ottavio Missoni

Ottavio Missoni

Ottavio Missoni 1990

“I’ve never done what was fashionable,” he told WWD in February 2011. “I didn’t want to work with preset schemes, and I paint my own way. I ended up in fashion by chance, I would never have imagined it.”

Los Angeles Fashion PR firm, P3R Publicity was sad to hear the news that Missoni co-founder, Ottavio Missoni, 92, died this morning at his home in Italy. To honor the memory of the designer who revolutionized textile patterns and created a fashion empire founded on a shoestring in 1950s, P3R takes a look at some of our favorite Missoni looks.

Traditional Glamour meets Steam Punk meets Modern Mythical Goth and viola – MET GALA

From Donna Karan, D&G, Balenciaga to Givenchy, this years red carpet for the 2013 Met Gala was truly an homage to 5th Avenue’s unconventional side!  And what a side that was! The annual ball that celebrates the opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute was definitely the ‘A’ ticket of the night!  Celebrities stepped away from the more demure looks seen at the Academy Awards and gave a nice lively boost of ‘mythical punk’ in their chosen eye catching designer gowns.  It was definitely a night showing how art meets fashion.

Los Angeles Fashion PR Firm, P3R client’s, celebrity hair stylist Claudio Lazo (owner of C The Salon in Studio City, CA) said Emmy Rossum looked stunning in an antique laced styled by Givenchy.  Of the actresses hair he says, “I loved what Emmy did with her hair!  She is right on trend with her multiple braids twisted and pinned into an amazing up do.  The texture of the hair piled on top is what we’re going to see a lot of this coming season.  It’s romantic and edged with just enough futuristic punk”

Emmy-Rossum-In-Tory-Burch-2013-Met-Gala

Some of P3R’s favorites were Nicole Richie, Katie Holmes (looking as classic as an Audrey Hepburn scene out of a movie), Sofia Vergara, Linda Evangelista (seemingly bringing to life what Ms. Haversham of “Great Expectations” must have looked like as a young beautiful bride to be……but with a gothic aire) Julianne Hough, punk pixie Miley Cyrus and the hostess herself, Lady “B” for Beyonce!  What a nite to have been out to see and be “scene”……as in being a work of living art within the historic walls of the Met!
