FearNet Talks with Tinsley on ‘American Horror Story’ FX

Emmy nominated Christien Tinsley talks with FearNet about his amazing prosthetic design work on American Horror Story and how he works with creator of the show, Ryan Murphy, to execute his vision.

Infantata from 'AHS' Season 1

Tinsley admits that “Infantata” was his favorite AHS character to work on, but hinted that Season 2 characters are equally as exciting! Tinsley and his team have been busy at work creating monsters for the new setting- at an asylum.  With an entirely new story line, we can’t wait to see what he comes up with!

What’s else is on the horizon for the ever-so-talented Tinsley?  He has developed a 3D FX Transfers horror line that debuts October 1- just in time for Halloween!   Check out the full FearNet interview!

2012 Emmy Nominations

The Emmy nominations were released this morning, leaving many with reason to celebrate! Amongst the most exciting news is P3R‘s client Christien Tinsley‘s nomination for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special for his work that brought the American Horror Story characters to life.

Tinsley responded to his nomination saying, “Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have once again proved their ability to push the creative boundaries of cable television. They have assembled a masterful team of artists to participate in creating their vision and I am humbled to be included as one of them. All the nominees recognized for AHS are well deserved and I am honored to be included.”

This Emmy nomination season, FX‘s American Horror Story tied Matthew Weiner‘s 1960s AMC Mad Men for 17 nominations. We can definitely see why FX submitted AHS, having finished only its first season and proving it can stand its ground against the 5-season favorite. AHS stars Connie Britton and Denis O’Hare also won nominations for their outstanding performances that will continue into their second season.

Magic Behind Monsters of AHS: Christien Tinsley Interview in Examiner

Just like in the movies how they say “Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13,” if you’re scared of blood and gore, this makeup and special FX is so realistic, it’ll leave you huddled on your couch. Academy Award winning makeup and special FX artist Christien Tinsley has left the audience and media speechless once again with his hair-raising, spine-tingling work on American Horror Story, Season 1.

Lori Melton of the Examiner discussed with Christien just how he created these astonishly horrific looks. Christien recounted “making Halloween masks and creating sculptures” as a kid and “watching films featuring the work of Dick Smith, Stan Winston, Rob Bottin, Steve Johnson and Rick Baker.” These great artists inspired him to become the renowned artist he is today, working with Ryan Murphy on shows such as Nip/Tuck,  Glee, and now AHS. Christien and his amazing crew work very well with Ryan because he “knows what he wants and for a makeup artist that can be a huge blessing.” Infantata was Christien’s favorite creature to design and with this as a teaser, we can’t even imagine what he’ll create in Season 2. Check out the entire Examiner interview HERE!
