3G Phones Hitting Newsstands In Entertainment Weekly

As if the technology craze hadn’t already erupted with the release of the iPhone 5, there is now confirmation that the rumors around the October 5th’s issue of Entertainment Weekly including a 3G phone in its pages are true! 1,000 limited edition copies are set to hit newsstands this Friday and we can only guess how impressive this will be to the advertising world.

Set to run two clips of upcoming CW network shows The Arrow and Emily Owens, M.D., this phone is the farthest a digital ad has come in the US. Not to mention, after these two clips are played, the CW’s Twitter feed is fed live to your screen.

The Arrow, set to premiere Oct. 8, features a billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell) who goes missing and is suspected dead after 5 years until he is found alive on a remote island. Returning to his beloved Starling City, Queen takes on the role of a vigilante who decides to right all his wrongs.

Emily Owens, M.D., will feature Mamie Grummer playing a medical intern at Denver Memorial Hospital who is not only joined by her high school crush, but also her high school nemesis. Talk about growing up and never leaving high school, this show will be just that, premiering Oct. 16.

Gluten-Free Gains Popularity

Addressing anorexia rumors, Miley Cyrus announced on her Twitter yesterday that a gluten-free diet is responsible for her newly svelte figure.

For those not familiar with gluten, it is a protein found in grains wheat, barley, and rye.  If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, the options out there for a gluten-free diet are increasing exponentially. Besides the fact that 1 in 133 Americans has celiac disease, gluten-free is quickly becoming the new “it thing,” which has led to an expanded consumer awareness of many ancient grains, such as quinoa, and millet, that offer great health benefits such as antioxidants and fiber.

Miley Cyrus recommended, via her Twitter page again, that everyone “should try a gluten-free diet for a week.” Caution: it may be harder than you think.  It’s not just cutting out bread or eating less pasta since gluten is sometimes added to things you wouldn’t normally think of; everything from salad dressing to seasonings.

Why does going gluten-free make you feel better even if you don’t have a sensitivity towards it?  It’s because wheat is a main ingredient in common processed foods, and by eliminating wheat and processed foods, people naturally return to a healthy diet of more fruits, vegetables, and other alternative high-fiber grains, which in turn makes them feel better.  For a gluten-free snack, check out Coupa Café‘s arepas!
