Water

Making a Splash

The American swimming rivalry between Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte continues to heat up as they had their first meeting in the 400-meter individual medley.  It was a grueling race encompassing all four strokes- one that Phelps said he would never compete in again after taking gold in Beijing. Lochte won the Gold this time and Phelps didn’t even get on the podium.

Although history may not repeat itself for a Phelps domination, the olympics aren’t over yet. They still have many races ahead of them!

Not everyone has to be an olympian to make the water a great place to exercise!  YogAqua is the practice and art of a vigorous Yoga flow into fusion with the sport of Stand Up Paddle Boarding.  Their tag line is, “Where the ocean is your yoga mat”  Don’t worry that you’ll float away, as they anchor you down with a weight!

World Water Week with WaterGeeks

Thousands of restaurants are celebrating World Water Week by participating in UNICEF’s Tap Project. From March 19-25, restaurants across the country are asking patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they normally receive for free.  To find restaurants that are participating near you, click HERE.

It’s crazy to think that in the year 2012 nearly 900 million people do not have access to safe drinking water.  In fact, this epidemic is the second largest killer of children under five with 4,200 children dying every day of water-related diseases.  $1 can provide a child with safe drinking water for 40 days!  To learn more about the Tap Project visit www.tapproject.org

The WaterGeeks mission is to empower today’s generation to reduce water consumption by producing simple, affordable and effective products that motivate and enable us all to conserve this critical resource.  WaterGeeks donated a portion of sales to the Tap Project and was a national supporter of this campaign.  Designed with an eye to conservation and combating the global water crisis, the featured products included:  1) filtered sport water bottles, 2) stainless steel water bottles, 3) water saving shower head, 4) water saving hose nozzle, 5) dual spray swivel aerator, and 6) an all natural liquid soap.

Do you make any effort to conserve water? If so, how? Let us know!
